Your news story ‘Desperate employers fear age of discontent’, (Personnel Today, 11 October) highlights the fact that imminent changes are indeed a cause for concern. But they also represent an opportunity.
Organisations in the best position to weather skills shortages and cope with changing legislation at short notice are those with a successful talent-management programme. Prudent employers nurture all talented employees, acknowledging the needs of old and young alike.
Perhaps changes to the law will serve as a reminder that sound talent management initiatives will stand most employers in good stead when it comes to the law and to the continued success of their organisation.
