Travel agency Thomas Cook has got itself out of a ‘tight’ spot by changing its policy on leg wear for female staff.
Staff had complained the company’s insistence that female employees wear only flesh-coloured tights in the winter was unfair.
Following discussions with union Transport Salaried Staff’s Association (TSSA), Thomas Cook has agreed to be more flexible. Staff can now wear thicker tights, which can be blue or flesh-coloured, or they can go bare-legged.
TSSA travel trade officer Rick Justham said: “We pointed out that other tights would look smart under a Thomas Cook uniform.”
In an e-mail memo to staff, Thomas Cook said that thick, woolly, patterned and black tights were still not considered acceptable as “this would not look aesthetically right with the predominantly blue uniform”.
