While I agree that trade unions still face challenges and need to make further efforts to address modern issues (Off Message, Personnel Today, 23 August), perhaps Stephen Overell could give examples of instances where large-scale inequalities such as the recent equal pay case for council staff have been achieved through anything other than trade union action?
I note that ‘HR rhetoric’ – a term I agree with – didn’t prevent the recent motivational cabbages and cauliflowers nonsense at a Scottish bank (Personnel Today, 23 August).
