First totally online training for BPS Certificates launched

by Personnel Today 9 Jul 2009
by Personnel Today 9 Jul 2009

The first ‘TOTALLY Online Training’ package for delegates to achieve British Psychological Society Level A and B (Intermediate) Certificates of Competence in Occupational Testing has been developed by Knight Chapman Psychological (KCP), the Sussex-based consultancy of Chartered Occupational Psychologists.

The innovative online training service, launched in March 2009, allows delegates 24 hour access to training materials, thus reducing the need for traditional classroom based training and offering substantial cost savings to employers.

Theoretical elements of the BPS Certificates are delivered online using web delivered tutorials, slide shows and video conferencing as are core assessment activities that include case studies and assessed exercises. Practical elements, such as test administration, feeding back test results and conducting interviews based on personality profiles, are carried out via live webcam sessions on the internet.

Kareen Cranston of Cranston Cognition who recently completed TOTALLY Online Training said of her experience “I can’t praise KCP enough for the care they took to make sure they were available to fit in with my timescales, that I had the materials I needed at the times I needed them and that the technology worked. The course materials were comprehensive, easy to access and navigate and provided everything needed to learn successfully in this area.”

KCP has a proven track record as an innovator in this field having been the first to offer distance learning for BPS Certificates in 1991.

According to Managing Director Andy Roberts, who developed the TOTALLY Online system, “KCP’s approach has given organisations and individuals the opportunity to gain these vital qualifications in the most user-friendly way. The cost savings are dramatic and the learning style and pace suits today’s busy HR professionals.”

Employer-led demand for BPS qualifications is strong. Since BPS Level A guidelines were launched in 1991 more than 25,000 people have joined the Register of Competence at Level A and almost 10,000 have joined the Register at Level B since 1995.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.

TOTALLY Online will also meet the requirements of a new pan-European system of qualifications in testing. Adoption of the model devised by the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA) is currently under consultation and the new qualification structure is likely to be in place by 2010.
