Free Guide to Display Screen Equipment regulations

Specsavers Corporate Eyecare is offering a free guide to the health and safety display screen equipment regulations. The publication includes the latest research into eyecare decisions across UK companies, guidance from Lord Young’s recent health and safety review and several current case studies to illustrate the information and put the theory into practice.

The guide covers who the legislation applies to, requirements for eyetests and the funding obligations. The necessity for clear communication is explored along with an explanation of the wider-reaching positive implications of a full eye examination. This is due to the numerous illnesses and medical conditions that can be detected and monitored using the very latest eyecare technology.

The 1992 Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations (amended in 2002) require employers to provide all employees who use visual display units (VDUs) with eye tests, when requested, and glasses, if required. Research shows that while companies are generally keen to offer effective eyecare, there is still widespread misunderstanding of the regulations. Three quarters of companies (73%) are not properly complying and a worrying 13% do not have an eyecare policy at all. The free guide aims to help employers to understand the regulations and their implications.
