All the public sector needs race equality inspections, not just the NHS

Your news article about the NHS watchdog inspecting health service trusts for race equality compliance highlights the problem – not just for the NHS, but for most public sector organisations.  They are simply struggling to fulfil their obligations.

Part of the issue is that nearly everyone, beyond equality and diversity managers and perhaps HR, simply struggle to understand what it’s all about.  Just trying to explain it can be difficult.

The issue needs clarification and simplification.  And people need to see it as not just a tick in the box, but one that will help the organisation as a whole.  

One of our prospective customers in the NHS has confirmed that although they have undertaken some training in this area their managers are struggling with equality impact assessments.

It’s time to make this easier.
