Asda
is recruiting a further 2,000 staff this year following strong quarterly
growth, especially in its non-food sales.
The
retailer wants an additional 1,000 full-time staff, to be matched with the same
number of temporary workers across its 228 stores in the UK.
A
growth rate of over 10 per cent in new customers and an increase in the amount
each shopper spends has contributed to the need for more staff, but Asda said a
30 per cent increase in clothing sales was the main factor.
Almost
500 of the permanent roles have already been filled with the remainder of the
2,000 vacancies to be filled before October.
The
announcement of more staff is in addition to the recruitment target of 10,000
the group set at the start of the year which it has now passed.
