As BBC director of HR, Hughes-D’Aeth will report to Anne Bulford, managing director of finance and operations.

Hughes-D’Aeth said: “I am thrilled to be taking on this role at this exciting time for the BBC and look forward to working with such creative, talented people.”

Welcoming Hughes-D’Aeth, Bulford said: “I look forward to Valerie joining us, bringing with her a wealth of experience from a long and successful career in HR.”

During a speaking event today, following her departure from the BBC, Adams has criticised the annual appraisal process.

Large salary, big payoffs for those who fail to perform, worth giving the BBC role a punt.
