A new campaign has been launched to encourage employers to recruit ex-soldiers.
The ‘Hire a Hero’ campaign was set up to dispel prejudice against former servicemen and women following complaints that employers did not appreciate that military skills could be useful in the workplace.
About 24,000 personnel leave the Armed Forces every year. It is thought that up to 1,100 of them end up on the streets of London, while 3% of prisoners – nearly 2,500 – are ex-military, the Metro reported.
But the Ministry of Defence said 96% of staff found work within six months of leaving the services.
The Manchester-based campaign group has launched a Facebook page and a hotline – 0161 447 6147.
