GMB agrees to £300,000 sexual harassment payout

The
GMB union has agreed to pay £300,000 to the former secretary of the union’s
Scottish leader, after she accused him of sexual harassment.

According
to Margaret McAvoy, union boss Robert Parker made sexual advances towards her
over a three year period. Parker denied the accusations.

Robert
Parker left his post as Scottish regional manner in March after the union paid
£50,000 to another women who also accused him of victimisation.

The
GMB agreed to the deal in advance of a resumed hearing of Mrs McVoy’s claim
next month. The payout is thought to be one of the biggest ever by a union.
