Your recent survey on bullying highlights the fact that all too often workplace bullying can go undetected (Personnel Today, 1 November). Staff morale plummets as people suffer the consequences in silence.
But who is responsible? Is it the board, or departmental heads? HR has a role in reducing bullying and acting against those responsible, but equally important is a rigid framework of measures to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Many companies are taking steps in the right direction. But HR directors must actively – and visibly – put in place internal policies and measures now so that staff feel protected. Until this happens, the number of incidents will continue to rise. Let’s pull together and banish the bullies once and for all.
