Jackie Orme said it was a “great honour” to be appointed the new chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
The CIPD has revealed that Orme, currently chief personnel officer and vice-president of human resources at the UK and Ireland division of food and drink maker PepsiCo, will join the CIPD in April 2008 to succeed Geoff Armstrong when he leaves next June.
She will become the voice of the HR profession, and lead the institute’s drive to extend its research services.
The appointment ends months of speculation about who would secure the high-profile job, set to command an annual salary in excess of £300,000 including bonuses.
Orme said: “It is a great honour to be appointed to this role at the head of an HR profession that is growing in influence and standing.
“I’m looking forward to leading the CIPD’s work to develop and promote great practice in the management and development of people.”
A member of the UK executive board of PepsiCo International, Orme also sits on the global PepsiCo International HR Council, and the board of housing and homelessness charity Shelter.
At PepsiCo, Orme heads a team of 60 across the UK and Ireland. She was previously the vice-president of HR for the Walkers Business for three years, and has spent five years working in HR in the steel industry.
Vicky Wright, CIPD president, said: “This is an exciting moment for the CIPD. Jackie has exceptional experience of the modern world our members are operating in.
“As a leading practitioner and innovator, she is ideally placed to lead the profession into the future. She’s also got the business experience needed to drive continued high performance and growth at the CIPD.”
The CIPD has more than 130,000 members from the HR profession.
