Catering firm Sodexho UK has opted to roll out a new HR and payroll system to improve efficiency and productivity rather than outsourcing its HR function.
The new system, from supplier SAP, will cater for up to 45,000 employees, 2,300 business units and 2,300 users.
It will be used for absence management and reporting, the control of agency workers and overtime costs, the control and deployment of wage rates and job grades, and the relation of staff costs to sales volumes.
Gary Barr, director of IT for the UK and Ireland at Sodexho, said the new system will prove more effective than outsourcing the HR function.

“Although initially we explored the idea of outsourcing, we eventually settled on an in-house system, as we believed that it would be more valuable to retain HR and payroll knowledge internally, which we could use to the benefit to the business as a whole,” he said.
Sodexho has signed up technology consultancy Pecaso to implement the SAP software and integrate it with current IT systems.
