I do not agree with Kevin Kerrigan’s inference that subjectivity is a bad thing (Personnel Today, 17 May).
Objective assessment plays an important part in confirming or disputing the subjective views of those who are hiring, and is also a way of challenging the status quo (who you know or are comfortable with).
But it should never take over completely as there are people out there with excellent judgement skills and the ability to match personality, skill and experience precisely to a job and organisation without the need for hours of assessments.
