Armed Forces personnel can now check on their pay and total benefits package online after the Ministry of Defence (MoD) introduced an internet-based total reward statement.
The Armed Forces’ Benefits Calculator covers about 215,000 personnel, thought to be the UK’s largest-ever total reward project.
The tool will provide service personnel with a quick way of assessing the value of their total remuneration package, incorporating basic pay, specialist pay, individual allowances, pension, and other MoD-provided benefits.
MoD chiefs hope the calculator will make it much easier for service personnel to compare between benefits offered by the Armed Forces and those tabled by civilian employers. It will also be made available to potential recruits keen to investigate the type of reward package they could expect.

Vice admiral Peter Wilkinson, deputy chief of defence staff (personnel), said: “The calculator is an exciting and innovative project which I am confident will show all who use it just how competitive the remuneration package our personnel receive is.”
The calculator was designed in conjunction with employee benefits consultancy Thomsons Online Benefits and builds on the success of the pension calculator launched in 2005.
