Motor trade retail group, Pentagon Investments Ltd, has signed a five-year in-house iTrent contract with HR, payroll and talent management solutions provider, MidlandHR. The commercial vehicle, used car and truck group has selected core HR, Absence Management and Manager Self-Service modules to help centralise employee information across multiple sites, streamline processes and tackle key issues such as absenteeism.
Pentagon Investments was formed in the early 1980s to facilitate expansion into commercial vehicles and passenger cars. The group has four Mercedes Benz commercial vehicle businesses in the East Midlands and two DAF truck franchises, trading as Lancashire DAF at its site near Preston and Lothian DAF on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
Gary Robson, group human resources director at Pentagon Investments comments: “Our six year old legacy system wasn’t satisfying our current needs which included enhanced absence management, manager self service, work flow and reporting. We were looking for a solution that was fast, intuitive, easy to use and visually appealing. iTrent met all of the requirements and the full implementation begins this month. We look forward to going live in September this year.”
iTrent’s HR modules will help to simplify processes by automating laborious data entry tasks and minimising paper-driven processes. Having one master database greatly reduces data entry errors by removing the requirement to enter information more than once, limiting business risk and ultimately improving service quality. The new solution will revitalise Pentagon Investment’s HR operations, enabling a sharper strategic focus on important issues such as absence management.
Manager Self-Service will empower line managers at Pentagon Investments, giving increased control and responsibility through direct access to the HR system and database to enter and update information. Additionally, as iTrent is zero footprint, it can be accessed anywhere via a link to the website offering greater working flexibility, whether from home or in the office.

It will add value by empowering line managers and freeing up the HR team to focus more time on key people development issues affecting the company such as talent management. ”
