The HR director for XL Leisure Group, which went into administration last week leaving thousands of holidaymakers stranded overseas, has told of her team’s struggles to help employees at the tour operator.
The company’s 1,700 employees face an uncertain future and the HR team has been retained by administrators to work on redundancy and other activities.
HR director Ruth Gawthorpe said that HR had to keep up appearances during tough times.
“The whole premise of what we have to do is really hard,” Gawthorpe told Personnel Today. “We just have to keep looking at it positively, as much for ourselves as the people who have either already left, or are going soon.”
Next week, Gawthorpe said she will begin CV workshops for staff to help them in their upcoming job search.

“We’re hoping it will really take off and inspire people to find new opportunities,” she said.
About 250 employees are expected to benefit from the workshops.
