The number of company directors seeking special government protection from kidnappers and extremists has doubled in the past year.
More than 6,500 directors have now applied to keep their personal details off the UK register of directors, the Observer reports.
Companies House has granted exemptions to all but 108 applicants, with their personal details transferred to its non-public ‘secure directors register’.
Director’s details are usually publicly available to subscribers on the Companies House website.
Business leaders have recently warned action by extremists could have a disastrous effect on Britain’s £3bn research and development sector.
