Education secretary Alan Johnson is to consider introducing a nationally consistent pay and conditions framework for school support staff.
The Support Staff Working Group has examined various models to ensure a nationally consistent approach to setting support staff pay and conditions.
Areas discussed have included facilities time and trade union recognition, job descriptions, contracts of employment and continuous professional development.
It is intended that any such structure would operate outside the National Joint Council framework which currently governs pay and conditions for local government employees.

Johnson said: “I am extremely grateful to the Support Staff Working Group for its report and I look forward to hearing back from the group on the possibility of setting up a new negotiating body to look at how we can better align pay and conditions of employment for support staff throughout the country.”
