Mergers and acquisitions

Mergers and acquisitions refers to the consolidation of companies. A merger is the combining of two companies to form a new company. An acquisition is the purchase of one company by another company.

The key area for HR departments during mergers and acquisitions is TUPE transfers. Transfer of undertakings (TUPE) laws safeguard employees’ rights when there is a transfer of a business or service from one organisation (the transferor) to another organisation (the transferee).
