What a day.
It started off with 3 quick-fire disciplinaries for people who have flouted the rules on absence.
As our absence rate is particularly high at the moment, we're eager to make examples of anyone who crosses the line that is made clear in our company handbook.
Some of the managers in other areas aren't too keen on punishing some of their team members, but we're not in the mood to allow anyone to take advantage.
This mood was further displayed with a new policy that we instigated today...
Fed up with the constant late cancellations of individuals due to attend training courses, we have decided to hit back.
Now, if any decides to pull out of a training course at short notice, we will be charging the individual's department for the training.
This policy has already ruffled many feathers, but to be honest it's long overdue...
Sounds like HR is more of a hall monitor/babysitter than a business partner in your organization :(
companies and employees in particular (mainly my generation) need to know there are rules! Every action has a consequence and my generation (20 something) don't seem to grasp the concept of how much they can cost a business by pretty much taking advantage or not being bothered in general. As an HR bod - my opinion in the hall monitor comments are that it's exactly these people who make those kind of judgements that need people like us to crack the whip when necessary!
